S.O.B FM was started as a project for a university assignment for the creator Cheyne Hackett for his university degree in Sports Management.
It was identified that in Ballarat there was a significant difference between what people in Ballarat wanted to hear on the radio and what was actually being offered. So Cheyne set out to create a radio station that offered what was missing -
And so became S.O.B FM.

- Great Music (not just boring mainstream music)
- Pumping Local Bands
- Local News and Information
- Lack of Adds
- and the availability of a decent radio station online!
And so became S.O.B FM.
